"Cross-Cultural Communication" Seminar

"Cross-Cultural Communication" Seminar is the opening event of the Beijing Xishan Forest Music Valley Branch Venue of 2021 Beijing Design Week.
Cross-Cultural Communication refers to the exchange activities between individuals, groups or organizations from different cultural backgrounds. Communication between individuals, ethnic groups and organizations, different regions, different countries and nationalities etc., all belong to the category of cross-cultural communication.
Simply put, Cross-Cultural Communication is about the way people from different culture backgrounds communicate when they deal with each other either at a distance or face to face.
The research, method discussion and promotion of cross-cultural communication are especially important in the context of globalization. The Cross-Cultural Communication Seminar invites research scholars, artists, architects, musicians, designers etc. to discuss theories and practices of cross-cultural communication from multiple dimensions and perspectives.

Cao Xiaowei
Doctor of Business Management, associate professor of School of Foreign Languages, Renmin University of China, has been teaching English and cross-cultural communication for master's and doctoral students in Renmin University of China for more than 20 years. Her publications include "Global Work Culture in Cross-cultural Enterprises" -- A Case Study of Italian Fashion Industry ", "Professional Communications" and other academic research works.
Wang Xiaolu
She is associate professor of English in the English Department at Renmin University of China. She teaches and writes about the English language and culture. She has taught courses including Advanced Intensive Reading in English, Intercultural Communication and Reading of English Literature in Public Administration for MPA students. She was deputy chairperson of the department from 1997 to 2014. From 2016 to 2020 she was the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva engaging in the teaching of Chinese and promotion of international collaboration in academic research on modern China.
Dominic .Johnson-Hill
Dominic is the founder and creative director of Plastered 8, a creative street ware brand that creates pop artwork that celebrates Beijing and plasters this artwork across their products. The idea behind Plastered 8 was simple: to become Beijing’s first t-shirt brand that captured the spirit of the city through creative design. Plastered 8 has two shops in Beijing. And the brand Plastered 8 won the United Nation Social Impact award for employee engagement in 2019 and well and Dominic winning the award for British entrepreneur of the year in 2008 in China.
His talent lies in his ability tell a story – using images, words, expressions – his ideas and creativity come to life in his designs and in all realms of his work. Dominic has also made name for himself in China as an inspirational public speaker, addressing University audiences, businesses, and NGOs. Passion is behind all Dominic’s work – his passion to entertain, to be creative, and to build his brand. For Dominic, exploring is a part of everyday life.
Dominic speaks fluent Chinese and is a recognized TV personality, He has appeared on hundreds of television programs: entertainment programs, chat shows, and documentaries.
He is also a father of 4 daughters.
LI Hongbo
Artist. Work and live in Beijing and Jilin.
Born in Jilin in 1974, He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Jilin Normal University, Jilin, China, in 1996. He then earned his first Master of Fine Arts in 2001 from the Folk-Art Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and concluded his formal education with a second Master of Fine Arts from the Experimental Art Department of the same school, in 2010.
Li Hongbo is best known for his interpretations of paper. His reinvention of the material's form challenges viewers’ expectations of the medium as an artistic vehicle. Utilizing an age-old honeycomb technique seen in paper gourd making in China, Li creates kinetic paper works which elegantly expand, contract, and retract. These sculptures hint at influences of folk traditions in China, but in contemporary light play upon perceptions and the visual language of a mercurial medium that has stood the test of time. His works have been exhibited in many art museums around the world, such as the Curitiba Biennale; Yinchuan Art Museum "Made in China-Li Hongbo Solo Project"; Beijing 81 Art Museum "Flower Sea"; "Standard"solo exhibition at the Paper Museum, Angoulême, France., etc.,
Li Hongbo is currently a professor of Jilin Normal University, member of the Experimental Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association, and the head of the China Paper Art Institute of Jilin Normal University.
Ivan Ballesteros
(Madrid, Spain. 1974)
He defines himself as creative world citizen, always interested in learning about other cultures and all the good things each of them has to offer.
He studied Architecture & Urbanism at ETSA in Canary Islands, Spain, where he got his degree in 2001.From 2004 till 2006, He got his Master degree at the Architectural Association of London (UK) in the Design Research Laboratory Program (AADRL). In 2008 He is selected by Jurgen Mayer H. to go to Stuttgart (Germany) for 9 months to continue his research on cutting-edge Design & Architecture. In 2012 He moved to Beijing, where he worked for few Chinese Companies before establishing his own office. He has won several competitions along his 20 years of professional experience.
In parallel to his architectural career, He has been an active visual artist using different medias since1998, exhibiting in locations as variated and enriching as La Havana in Cuba, Bamako in Mali, San Antonio de Texas in USA or Beijing where he contacted for the first time China in 2008.
From 2017 he has been teaching at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing at the International Foundation course (CAFA IFC) as the teacher of the Spatial Studio, helping Chinese students to apply to some of the most famous schools of Art & Design abroad; in fields related to architecture, interior design, landscape, or stage design. His experience teaching young Chinese students and helping them to adjust to the western ways has given him a certain perspective on the differences between Chinese and foreign education methodologies in the creative fields. He married to a Chinese woman and deeply understand and love Chinese culture.
CHEN Zhipeng
Well-known International musician, pioneer in nature music founding. Born and raised in well-known art and educational family, studied Eastern and Western art from very young age. Director of The International Jew's Harp Society (IJHS); Guest Professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts; Representative of Chinese Museums Association Music Instruments Committee; Visiting Scholar of Whittier & LIASE, United States; Consultant of Tencent Cultural Music.
Mr. CHEN has his own unique understanding on traditional music, aesthetic perceived in culture and art. He has been involved to promote folk-music, worldwide music, and development of cross-boundary cultural art in China; He has organised many different themes nature music and live music, and founded the following cultural brands, which are “Natural Music Centre (自然音樂中心)”, “Muse in Nature (乐音自然)”, “Natural Manas (自然感知)”, etc. As the art consultant and lecturer, Mr. CHEN has been invited to many educational centres inside and outside of China; represented international art festival and movie festival’s music director. His team has invited to attend many worldwide famous music cultural projects and performances, art exchanges and cooperation over many years.
